Featured Artist – Albino Hector – NSFW-ish

This is my first taste of artist Albino Hector’s work. I was immediately captivated when I first saw an image of him in a ‘sneaker mask’. I went digging and enjoyed what I have discovered about Albino Hector so far. I wanted to do a quick introduction. Go ahead and take a bite below. We’ll dig deeper in later.

In a recent interview Albino Hector did with Pineapple Site, he talked about being raised in Central Spain, being gay, introverted, and chubby. From what I see, only one of those things still exist today.

Could we start with some background information about you? Where you grow up, where you based, how did you get interested in fashion design?

I was born and raised in a small town in central Spain called Valdepeñas. I spent my childhood and adolescence there. The type of adolescence that a gay, introverted and chubby boy has in a small town. Some of you will know what I mean and what this means. Luckily, I found happiness spending my days drawing, playing video games with my older brother and of course, spending entire afternoons on the Internet. I had the best luck of being able to have an ADSL connection since I was 7-8 years old and this has made possible the person I am today. Since I was a child, I’ve always had artistic concerns and a big need for expression. High school was a nightmare, but everything changed when I started my Bachelor of Arts and I was able to begin to live and relate to the world in a positive way for me. This is the point where I begin to become really interested in fashion, since it coincides with the opening of Youtube. Someone uploaded many Thierry Mugler fashion shows from the 90s to this platform and also the appearance of Lady Gaga in my life (2007) which makes me have a great interest in fashion, and feel it as a means of vital and artistic expression. At the age of 18, I started university, left town and studied for a degree in Fine Arts. It is at this point that I begin to become curious about fetish and fetish culture (aesthetically and sexualy speaking), which coincides with my coming-out as gay and my sexual awakening.
